The introduction of the immigration cap means that Asian and Oriental restaurants can only recruit skilled staff that earn £28K plus from outside the European Economic Area (EEA). In response to this the government is funding a recruitment drive to help restaurants in the industry employ apprentices that are trained in a Centre of Excellence for Asian and Oriental cuisine.
The work to support Asian and Oriental restaurants access skilled staff is being championed by the Hospitality Guild and led by People1st, Sector Skills with the support of Springboard UK. Together we are working in partnership with industry bodies including the:
- Association of Thai Business UK
- Bangladeshi Caterers Association UK
- Chinese Take-Away Association
Recruits will attend a six week pre-employment training course, with the opportunity to gain work experience in an Asian or Oriental restaurant. They will then progress onto an employed 18-month Hospitality Apprenticeship, specialising in Bangladeshi, Indian, Chinese or Thai cuisine.
To find out more about this opportunity we invite you to attend two events in May at Trafford College, which is the nearest Centre of Excellence to your restaurant:
